Star Trek Review

Posted by iPodNanoClock - May 11th, 2009

Yes I saw Star Trek and to be honest, it was actually good.
To say the least, Star Trek caters to the fans.To start off, Star Trek is more of an alternate universe than a prequel, based off the ending. The story begins with George Kirk, and his Star Fleet crew traveling in space when a giant Romulan ship comes and attacks. Now, George's wife, who is about to give birth to the famous James Kirk, is on the ship. George commands everybody to get on a escape pod while he crashes into the Romulan ship as a kamikaze. George dies, James and his mom survives, and the opening is done. Cut about 15 years later, and we see a teenage bad-ass who was driving cars off cliffs and getting into bar fights. I really wish they could've showed a bit more growing up and why Little Kirk is such a bad boy. Cut to the Vulcan planet where we see a young Spock. A couple of boys pick on him, calling his dad a traitor (for marrying a human) and his mom a whore. He did what any young, sophistacated, young, and intelligent Vulcan would do; beat the crap out of the bullies. From there, we see Spock growing up all the way until he gets accepted to a very high class institute, but Spock denies and goes to Star Fleet. Again, goes straight from kid to adult, and I wanted to see a bit more of him growing up. Then again, it would just lengthen the movie even more. Back to James, and is in a bar fight with Star Fleet students. The captain breaks them up, and realizes who James is. He wants James to join Star Fleet. Of course, being a cliche, he first says no, but ends up heading over to the jet that takes off. From there, it's James crazy adventures with his pal Leonard McCoy and Uhura, a girl which James is dying to figure out the first name of. Right here it gets a bit boring, with some funny moments, but wasn't the main event. But the main event happens when there is a distress call from Vulcan planet. While James is on his suspension, McCoy somehow gets him on the ship. I didn't really understand why he was able to go on (comment explaining why please). On the USS Enterprise, there is the crew and they head over to Vulcan. While they are flying, some kid with an accent, which I can't figure out what kind of accent, says there is some thunderstorm in space. James says that is bull**** and says that it is a trap, the same thing showed up when his dad was killed by Romulans. Spock confirms this, and the party begins. I'm not going to spoil anymore than I have, but I am going on record to say this is one of the only movies out right now that is out right now. And Zachary Quinto is such and awesome Spock! Just like the good old Leonard Nimoy, except younger looking. (SPOILER: Leonard Nimoy makes a special apperance! YAY!) This gets a 9/10, or specifically a 93% for me. Must watch.
